Field responses of Isoceras sibirica to synthetic blends of its sex pheromone

چکیده
The carpenterworm, Isoceras sibirica Alpheraky (Lepidoptera Cossidae), is a destructive pest that affects Asparagus officinalis L. In an effort to develop a new and effective method for controlling the pest, the main components of its female sex pheromone were synthesized in the laboratory. We evaluated the effects of the following synthetic compounds, alone and in combination: (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14:Ac), (Z)-7-tetradecenyl acetate (Z7-14:Ac), and (Z)-9-hexadecadecenyl acetate (Z9-16:Ac). When provided alone, Z9-14:Ac was very attractive to I. sibirica males. Neither Z7-14:Ac nor Z9-14:Ac alone attracted any moths. Moth capture increased significantly when Z7-14:Ac was added to Z9-14:Ac. The optimum ratio of Z9-14:Ac to Z7-14:Ac was 500:400. Male moths were not attracted by Z9-16:Ac alone, and this compound did not affect the attractiveness of synthetic pheromone blends. The best field activity was obtained for lures baited with Z9-14:Ac and Z7-14:Ac (5:4 ratio) at a dose of 900 μg septum. The findings presented here could facilitate safer and more environmentally friendly management of I. sibirica.

Identification of the sex pheromone of Isoceras sibirica Alpheraky (Lepidoptera, Cossidae).
We discovered that extracts of the female sex pheromone gland of the carpenterworm moth Isoceras sibirica Alpheraky, a pest of Asparagus officinalis Linn., contained (Z)-7-tetradecen-1-ol (Z7-14:OH), (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol (Z9-14:OH), (Z)-7-tetradecenyl acetate (Z7-14:Ac), (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14:Ac), and (Z)-9-hexadecadecenyl acetate (Z9-16:Ac). The average levels of the chemicals in ...
متن کاملTrapping effect of synthetic sex pheromone of Acleris fimbriana (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) in Chinese northern orchard.
The yellow tortrix, Acleris fimbriana Merick (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), is an economically important insect pest on fruit trees with four generations a year in North China. In order to develop a new and effective method for forecasting and controlling the pest, the sex pheromone was studied. We have identified the female sex pheromone as (E)-11,13-tetradecadienal (E11,13-14:Ald), (E)-11,13-tet...

BACKGROUND Field trapping experiments were conducted to evaluate the attractiveness of five different pheromone blends as well as the impact of trap design on attractiveness towards cocoa mirids, Sahlbergella singularis Hagl. and Distantiella theobroma (Dist.), in Cameroon. RESULTS A total of 361 adults of S. singularis (359 males and two females) were caught. The highest numbers of mirids we...

We identified a four-component sex pheromone blend that is as attractive or more attractive to male navel orangeworm moths, Amyelois transitella (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), than either unmated females or hexane extracts of pheromone glands of females. The blend consisted of (11Z,13Z)-hexadecadienal; (11Z,13Z)-hexadecadien-1-ol; (11Z,13E)-hexadecadien-1-ol; and a hydrocarbon, (3Z,6Z,9Z,12...

Studies were conducted investigating the responses of female obliquebanded leafrollers, Choristoneura rosaceana (Harris) and redbanded leafrollers, Argyrotaenia velutinana (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), to components of their sex pheromone. Electroantennogram (EAG) recordings revealed significant responses from antennae of female moths of both species to the major pheromone component, (Z)...
